AT&T gives up on $39 billion bid for T-Mobile USA

(Reuters) – AT&T has dropped its controversial billion bid for Deutsche Telekom’s U.S. wireless unit, bowing to fierce regulatory opposition and leaving both companies scrambling for alternatives.
